PostHeaderIcon The Importance Of Backing Up Files On Your Computer

If you are one of the thousands that deal with computer crashes every year, then you know what it is like to lose all files that you deem important. If you are a businessman, then you may have lost a presentation. If you are a writer, you may have lost that great American novel you have been slaving over for months. If you like to take photographs, then you may have just lost every picture of your family. Well, if you have yet to experience something like this, then you should probably know to back up your files. Here are some ways for you to be able to back up files for when you need them.

The first thing you need to know is that it is always a good idea to have a hard copy of any important file you have. For those who do not know, a hard copy is simply a printed form of whatever file it is you need. A soft copy is a digital copy of the same file. There are advantages to both of these things, which is why it is a good idea to have copies of both. If you are a writer, it is important to have a backup file of your work on either a USB flash drive, or an external hard drive.

These devices are used to store devices for the purposes of both transporting files in an efficient manner and for holding separate copies of files. So copying a file from your computer to one of these devices can really come in handy, especially a file of importance. However, these are not the only things you should do. You should also print off a hard copy, if possible, of your work. This will ensure that even if you were to lose, for example, a report or work of writing, you could at least rewrite it and recover your work.

Now, you need to know some of the things that could badly affect your computer that would make you lose your files. Some of these are common sense. For example, keep any magnets or anything magnetic away from your computer at all times. Not only will this erase your files, but could render the machine useless altogether. You should also be sure to not eat or drink near your computer, as spilled liquid can cause it to short out.
